GREENWICH Billy Whitaker, 81, of Greenwich, died Friday at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 30, 1925 in Gunlock, Ky., son of the late Sam and Julia L. (Hale) Whitaker. He moved to Greenwich in 1950.

He served in the Air Force during World War II. He retired from Westinghouse in Mansfield after 35 years. He was a member of the Shiloh United Baptist Church on Noble Road and the Rural Coon Hunters Club of Greenwich.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine (Hicks) Whitaker, whom he married Oct. 6, 1950; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Cles Inmon and Barbara and Lanny Keysor, all of Greenwich; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Whitaker of Gahanna and Pard Whitaker of Greenwich; sisters, Claris Oney and Eva Jane Conley, both of Greenwich, and Shelbia Jean Downing of Norwalk; and a brother, Van Edward Allen of Willard.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Whitaker; and sisters, Polly Freeman and Betty Ruth Whitaker.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Greenwich First Baptist Church, 96 Townsend St., Greenwich, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Revs. Gary Adkins and Delmer Bailey officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery. Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich, handled arrangements.
