NORWALK — Arthur “Gene” Richards, 87, of Florence, died Thursday evening at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk. He was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Hoopeston, Ill., and had lived in the Florence area most of his life.
He served in the Army in Europe and Africa during World War II. Following the war, he worked at Bendix-Westinghouse in Elyria. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Gibson Lodge 301 in Wakeman and the Vermilion AMVETS Post 22. He was also a member of the Florence Congregational Church.
He was an avid golfer and a member of the Oberlin Golf Club, also enjoyed reading and playing bridge.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia (Seneff); a daughter, Rhonda (Don) Nelson of Rochester Hills, Mich., and a granddaughter and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur E. Richards and Ruth (Sims) Rumbold; and a daughter Jeaneen Richards.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, 38 South St., Berlin Heights, where a masonic service will be held at 4 p.m. A funeral will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Florence Congregational Church on Ohio 113 in Florence with pastor Kelly Clemens officiating. Burial will follow in Birmingham Cemetery.
