SANDUSKY — Ronald W. Zoellner, 69, of Huron, died Tuesday morning in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born Nov. 18, 1937 in Sandusky. He was self-employed as a plumber, but aviation was his true passion. He was a well known area pilot and flight instructor for over 50 years and operated the Huron County airport for 10 years.
He attended Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the Erie County Gideons, where he brought the Gideon message to many Sandusky and surrounding area churches. He was also a member of the Sandusky Christian Businessmen, the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 50, and member and past president of the Sandusky Lions Club with whom he participated in numerous community projects.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, whom he married June 27, 1959; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Scott Crump of Kansas City, Mo.; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Lori Zoellner of Sandusky and David and Audrey Zoellner of Milan; seven grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Thelma Zoellner of Sandusky; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Ron Smith of Cassopolis, Mich; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bill in 1984; his parents, William and Wilhelmina (Benz) Zoellner; and other family members.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel (formerly Quick-Park & Pfeil), 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, where the Sandusky Lions Club will hold a Memorial Service at 5:45 p.m. Sunday. On Monday, the body will be taken to the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, 4013 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky to lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. David Flack will officiate. Burial will be in the Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
