NEW LONDON Irene V. Skinner, 92, of New London, died Friday at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

She was born Oct. 29, 1914 in Dresden, N.Y., to Charles R. and Lillian Chapman Van Deventer. She graduated from Cornell University in 1936 and 1945. At Cornell, she was elected to Omicron Nu, Home Economics Honorary, Pi Lambda Theta and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. She took graduate studies at UNC Greensboro, Merrill Palmer Institute in Detroit and Bowling Green State and Akron universities.

She retired in 1980 as assistant professor emirate from Bowling Green State University, where she taught for 14 years. She taught home economics 15 additional years in Jamestown, Deposit, Rushford, Trumasnburg, Greenwood, N.Y., and Edgewood, N.J.

She moved from Blockville, N.Y., to New London to reside with her family in 1999. She attended New London United Methodist Church. She was a member, Sunday school teacher and UMW past president of the Blockville United Methodist Church. She belonged to Harmony Historical Society, Blockville, American Association of University Women, Jamestown, N.Y., and both the Human Ecology and Cornell alumni associations of Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.

She was devoted to her family, enjoyed flower gardening, photography and she spent 20 entire summers at the New England Music Camp in Maine.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Annette Williams, Canisteo, N.Y., and Sally and Joe Pack of New London; four grandsons and a granddaugter-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harold E. Skinner, in 1997; sisters, A. Lorraine and Beverly Van Deventer of New York, Gertrude Schacht, of Vero Beach, Fla.; a brother, Elton Van Deventer, of New York; and a son-in-law, Charles Williams of New York.

Services will be at a later date in both Ohio and New York. Burial will be in Ashville, N.Y. The Heritage Cremation Society in Louisville, Ohio, is handling the arrangements.
