NORWALK Hazel Marie (VanHyning) Hill, 96 of Norwalk, died Tuesday in Norwalk Memorial Home.
She was born Feb. 21, 1910 in Jefferson Township. She had been a Vermilion resident for 51 years, moving to New London in 1998 and then Norwalk in 2000.
She graduated from high school in 1929. She was a member of the Vermilion E&R Church. She enjoyed playing cards with different groups, gardening, flower beds, and quilting.
She is survived by her sons, Henry James Hill of Prescott, Ariz. and Tom Hill of New London; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Wilcox of Bellfontaine; and several nieces and nephews including her caretakers, Betty Eberly and Nancy and Marvin Wright.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Hill in 1999; parents, James Mortimore and Leota Mae (Wickersham) VanHyning; brothers, James "Bud" and Robert VanHyning; and sisters, Ruth Kelley, Katherine King and Alice VanHyning.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion. Friends may also call from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at noon Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. William A. Seith will officiate. Burial will follow in Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion.
