George E. Lierenz

NORWALK — George E. Lierenz, 85, of Norwalk, died Friday at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.

He was born Feb. 16, 1921 in Cleveland and moved to Norwalk in 1926.

He served in the US Army from December 1942 until January 1946, and was stationed in Eritrea, Africa.

He was an engineer with Ford Motor Co. in Sandusky, retiring in 1983. He also owned George's Tax Service in Milan, which he retired from in 2002.He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and served on various committees.He also was a member of the Firelands Post 2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed playing softball and was an avid bowler; with his highest game of 299.

He was instrumental in founding the Ohio Society of Enrolled Agents, and served all offices, and was president of its local chapter. He received the Karl Storm Founders Award on two different occasions, and gave seminars with extensive annual tax updates to his fellow enrolled agents.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah S. (Gross) Lierenz, whom he married May 2, 1942; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary L and Martin Farrell of Monroe, Mich. and Ann A. and Robert Corley of Norwalk; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn Evert, Adala and Harry Gordon, and Regina and Stanley Braden; brother and sister-in-law, John and Coleen Lierenz; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Susanna (Bielz) Lierenz; brothers, Karl Lierenz Sr. and Martin Lierenz; and a sister, Susanna Stanley.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Ave., Norwalk. The Rev. Fred Wiechers will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk.
