Marijuana defendant has trial date set

An Erie County defendant entered "not guilty" pleas to two counts of trafficking in marijuana Monday.

The Huron County Common Pleas Court trial for Cainon C. Means, 28, of Huron, is set for Sept. 25. Each of the fourth-degree felonies is punishable by six to 18 months behind bars. His charges are in connection with incidents on March 25 and 31.

Means told Judge Jim Conway he doesn't have a prior felony conviction, but confirmed he has a domestic violence conviction from 2013. The defendant said he is on probation through Norwalk Municipal Court, but it's unclear if it's for the same charge.

"He is here on a summons. We just want the bond to be continued," Huron County Public Defender David Longo said.

Means, who earlier posted a $5,000 bond, is subject to random drug screens.
