The Sandusky post of the state Highway Patrol Post is investigating a one vehicle, fatal crash that occurred at 1:01 p.m. today on U.S. 6 near Northwest Road in Erie County's Margaretta Township.
Ralph Russo, 63, of Findlay, was driving a 2007 Lexus GX470, silver SUV west on U.S. 6 when he crossed the center line and drove off the left side of the road, striking a mailbox, road sign and two trees, troopers said.
Russo, who had been wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
Nancy Russo, 68, of Findlay, was a passenger in the vehicle, and she sustained serious injuries. She was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition. She, too, was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.
