An area motorcyclist was hospitalized in a Toledo trauma center after a single-vehicle crash Saturday in Erie County.

Chad S. Rhoades, 42, of Cuyahoga Falls, was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center as of Sunday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A LifeFlight helicopter transported Rhoades from the Smokey Road crash site near Ohio 61 after the crash about 5 p.m.

No citations have been issued in the ongoing investigation by the Sandusky post of the state Highway Patrol.

Rhoades, who wasn't wearing a helmet, was westbound on Smokey Road when he drove off the right side, hit a utility pole and was ejected from the bike, troopers said. It's unknown if alcohol was a factor. Troopers said Rhoades had life-threatening injuries.

The 2010 Harley-Davidson bike sustained heavy damage.

The Berlin Township Volunteer Fire Department, Erie County Sheriff's Office, a LifeFlight crew and Foster's Towing assisted troopers at the scene.
