Beware of 'Notice to Appear' message

Norwalk Reflector Staff • Jun 13, 2014 at 7:07 PM

Scammers are sending fake "Notice to Appear" e-mails to area offices.

Huron County Clerk of Courts, Susan Hazel, reports that the fake "Notice" states that a court notice is attached to the e-mail. Hazel warns recipients not to open the attachment. The scammed message states that "the judge may hear the case in your absence." The e-mail appears to be from a clerk of court. It does not specify which court is sending the notice. There also is no phone number listed.

Opening the attachment on these scammed messages could expose your computer to a virus. Authentic communication from a court would include the court's contact information.

Huron County Common Pleas Court does not send official notifications to individuals via e-mail.
