Norwalk will welcome Ed FitzGerald back to the Maple City today.

FitzGerald, the Democratic candidate for governor, will be on hand from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for a wine and cheese fundraiser at the D & D Smith Winery, 401 W. Main St.

The winery is located across from the National Guard off Ohio 61.

The evening will include a "conversation about Ohio's future."

Also in attendance will be Huron County Commissioner Tom Dunlap, Democratic Party Chairwoman Sue Lesch, Auditor Roland Tkach, Engineer Joe Kovach, Sheriff Dane Howard, Treasurer Kathleen Schaffer, Prosecutor Russell Leffler, Assistant Prosecutor Daivia Kasper, candidate for Huron County commissioner Dennis Stieber and former prosecutor William Owens.

Dunlap said Thursday he's excited to have FitzGerald back in Huron County once again.

"I'm actually serving on his advisory committee to help him get elected," Dunlap said.

FitzGerald will face Republican incumbent Gov. John Kasich in the November election.

Dunlap said FitzGerald has a variety of experience, including serving in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as mayor of Lakewood and as county executive in Cuyahoga County.

"I feel Ed FitzGerald is the better answer," Dunlap said.

"He did a real good job in Cuyahoga County cleaning up the corruption and nonsense happening there," he said.

"This will only be June, and I think it's his (FitzGerald) fourth or fifth visit to Huron County," Dunlap said.

Dunlap was asked, if FitzGerald is elected, will he continue to visit Huron County.

"I think he will," he said. "Obviously, people always say that and I know he will have to spend a lot of time in Columbus, but I think he will come back."

Anyone seeking more information on this fundraiser can call Dunlap at (419) 681-0737.

"This fundraiser is open to the public," Dunlap said. "We encourage everyone to come out."
