Walmart safety fair set for Saturday

Norwalk's Walmart store will kick off three Saturdays of safety fair events at 10 a.m. this Saturday with representatives from six local organizations promoting safety to customers of the Westwind Drive retailer.

Firelands Red Cross will be offering free blood pressure checks and providing home safety information from 10 a.m. until noon. North Central EMS and Fisher-Titus Medical Center will continue the safety presentation and blood pressure checks from noon until 2 p.m. Ohio State Highway Patrol's mascot, Teddy Trooper, will be on hand for free pictures with children from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Troopers, in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation, will have a simulator on hand to show the effects of texting while driving. Huron County's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will provide home safety information and showcase the functions of the group.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 21, deputies from the Huron County Sheriff's Department will provide free kids' identification cards to parents. They will also highlight motorcycle safety and have a K-9 officer on hand to meet the public. AAA East Central Ohio's safety representative will have highway safety information for motorists. WalMart's transportation division will also have their highway safety promotion trailer on hand. Car seat safety for children will be featured by the Huron County Health Department. CERT will also be available for information on how to be safe during an emergency at home.

Norwalk firefighters will be at the store from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 28 to discuss fire and carbon monoxide safety. Huron County's Humane Society will promote pet adoption and pet safety. Norwalk Parks and Recreation will have a summer safety presentation, as well. Huron County Senior Enrichment Services will showcase safety for our senior citizens. The CERT team will once again be available, as will the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's boating safety information.

Local agencies and organizations have volunteered to attend the Norwalk Walmart safety fair events as part of the retailer's Safety Month program. Each event will be held at the store located at 340 Westwind Drive, Norwalk. Events are free and open to all. Agencies and groups who participate may have to leave without notice in case of an emergency.
