The Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at 7:20 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Ohio 19 and County Road 181 in Sandusky County’s Green Creek Township.
Judith Hansen, 69, of Clyde, was driving a 2010 Ford Focus west on County Road 181 when she failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign and drove into the path of a northbound 2004 Dodge Caravan being driven by Alyson Johnson, 25, of Fremont, troopers said. After the collision, both vehicles traveled off the northwest corner of the intersection, where Johnson's vehicle overturned and came to rest on its left side.
Hansen sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported from the scene by LifeFlight to the University of Toledo Medical College, where she died.
Her Ford Focus sustained heavy damage and was towed to Ash’s Towing in Fremont.
Johnson sustained serious injuries and was transported by Life Squad 15 to the Fremont Hospital. Her passenger, Talytha Mehaley Nikkole Blanton Elick, 20, of Fremont, sustained incapacitating injuries and also was transported by Life Squad 15 to the Fremont Hospital. She was later transported via LifeFlight to the Toledo Hospital.
The Dodge Caravan sustained heavy damage and was towed by Grunden’s Towing of Vickery.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Green Springs Fire and Rescue, Toledo Mercy St. Vincent Life Flight, and Life Squad 18.
All of the vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts and alcohol is not involved, trooper said. The crash remains under investigation.
