TNS Regional News • Mar 29, 2014 at 4:07 PM

A Union County man who drunkenly drove into a utility pole in February and killed his passenger was sentenced yesterday in to six years in prison.

Gerald Keeton, 46, of Magnetic Springs, also was given a lifetime driver’s license suspension.

The sentence came as part of a plea deal, Union County Prosecutor David Phillips said.

Keeton was driving on Hopewell Road in Union County, just west of the Delaware County line, on Feb. 3 when he lost control on an icy patch and crashed into a utility pole. The car split in two. Keeton’s passenger, Shelby L. McClincy, 37, of Richwood, was killed.

Keeton pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
