A truck driver was killed Wednesday on U.S. 6 near the Ohio Turnpike.
John D. Laven, 38, of Bedford, Ind., was driving a white 2006 International semi and flatbed trailer loaded with lumber west on U.S. 6 at 12:35 p.m. when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck an embankment at TR 222, said troopers with the Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol. The impact caused the load to shift and the cab to become dislodged from the frame.
Laven was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
Laven was wearing a safety belt, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Clyde Fire Department, Sandusky County EMS, Lucas County Coroner, ODOT, EPA and Madison's Towing.
