Norwalk council votes down fire key box law

Scott Seitz2 • Feb 25, 2014 at 2:07 PM

Norwalk city council voted down legislation that would have required fire key boxes be included in new commercial construction.

The initial vote was 3-3, with council members Kelly Beck, Samantha Ludwig and Chris Mushett voting against the legislation and Stephen Schumm, Deb Lucal and David Wallace voting in favor.

With Councilman Bob Carleton's absence, that meant Council President Steve Euton voted to break the tie and he voted "no."

Fire Chief John Soisson had sponsored the legislation.

"I still think it's a good program," he said, adding businesses can still voluntarily participate. "I was just trying to do what's best as fire chief."

This was one of several matters discussed at the recent council meeting.
