(UPDATED) Flood warning issued

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Northern Huron County.

An ice jam on the Huron River may create flooding near the river around Milan and Norwalk. Do not drive through flooded roadways.

This warning is in effect until 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Here are some details provided by the weather service:

THE FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR

THE HURON RIVER NEAR MILAN.

* AT 9:30 PM FRIDAY THE STAGE WAS 21.7 FEET.

* FLOOD STAGE IS 18.0 FEET.

* MODERATE FLOODING IS OCCURRING AND MODERATE FLOODING IS FORECAST.

* FORECAST...THE RIVER WILL RISE TO NEAR 22.4 FEET BY LATE TONIGHT.

THE RIVER WILL FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE SATURDAY MORNING.

* THE FLOOD WILL CAUSE ICE TO BREAK UP OR BECOME JAMMED. ICE JAMS

ARE VERY UNPREDICTABLE CAUSING SHARP RIVER RISES AND FALLS.

* AT 22.5 FEET...HOMES INUNDATED IN FRANKLIN FLATS. MANY EVACUATIONS

NECESSARY. PROPERTY ALONG ROUTE 250 INUNDATED AND SEVERAL LOCAL

ROADS IMPASSABLE.

* AT 21.0 FEET...FLOODWATERS MAY BEGIN TO AFFECT BUSINESSES ALONG THE

RIVER NEAR THE VILLAGE OF MILAN NEAR US ROUTE 250. WATER WILL BE

NEARLY TWO FEET DEEP IN PORTIONS OF FRANKLIN FLATS. LOW LYING

SECONDARY ROADS NEAR THE RIVER MAY BECOME IMPASSABLE.

* AT 19.5 FEET...FLOOD WATERS OVER A FOOT DEEP IN FRANKLIN FLATS.

HURON RIVER VALLEY CAMPGROUND INUNDATED.

* AT 18.0 FEET...FLOODING OCCURS IN LOW LYING AREAS ALONG THE RIVER

FROM MILAN TO FRANKLIN FLATS.

Special message from the weather service:

PATCHES OF ICE COULD DEVELOP ON AREA ROADS TONIGHT THROUGH

SATURDAY MORNING...

MELTING SNOW HAS CAUSED AREAS WHERE HIGHWAYS...ON RAMPS AND PARKING

LOTS ARE WET FROM THE MELT WATER. WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS EXPECTED TO

DROP BELOW FREEZING...THIS WATER CAN EASILY FREEZE SINCE MOST OF

THE ROAD SALT HAS BEEN WASHED AWAY. MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO USE

CAUTION DRIVING TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING AND BE ALERT FOR

PATCHES OF ICE.

NEVER DRIVE YOUR CAR THROUGH FLOODED ROADWAYS. THE WATER MAY BE

DEEPER THAN IT APPEARS. TURN AROUND...DON`T DROWN!
