Accused burglar, girlfriend arrested in probe of rifle theft

The investigation of the theft of a rifle and some loose change led to two recent arrests.

The Huron County Sheriff's Office received a call from Ronald Bischoff who reported someone broke into his home and stole a .22-250 Remington rifle and some loose change, Chief Deputy Ted Patrick said. The complaint came in about 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

"The gun was equipped with a scope and some ammunition," Patrick said.

Bischoff told deputies he found some tire tracks and footprints in the snow near his house that indicated his son and girlfriend likely were involved.

"He said they have a drug problem," Patrick said.

Deputy Eric Bardar, assisted by detectives, received information that the victim's son, David Bischoff, 25, of Attica, would be going to his uncle's house, he said. The house is on Section Line Road 30 in Sherman Township.

"The suspect was going to borrow some money from his uncle," Patrick said. "Deputies set up in the area and when David showed up at the uncle's, they confronted him."

When deputies contacted David Bischoff, his girlfriend was in the pickup truck. Patrick said the girlfriend, Brittany Parsons, 27, of Huron, told officers she didn't have any illegal narcotics in her purse.

"She lied to deputies," Patrick said. "They requested consent to search the vehicle and were denied access."

When a police dog went around the truck, it alerted and indicated the presence of suspected narcotics inside. Deputies found the rifle, some syringes and drug paraphernalia inside the truck and inside Parsons' purse, they found a small amount of suspected heroin, Patrick said.

"It was in a cellophane container. ... David Bischoff admitted the heroin was his," he added.

Bischoff was charged with burglary and possession of heroin. Parsons was charged with obstruction of justice, a fourth-degree felony punishable by six to 18 months behind bars. They were transported to the Huron County Jail on Saturday night.
