Drivers charged with DUI during separate traffic stops

Two local men were charged with driving under the influence in connection with separate traffic stops.

Derek G. Valentine, 44, of 217 Concord Court, was stopped by Trooper Bill Howard, of the state Highway Patrol, for failure to display. The traffic stop happened at 2:24 a.m. Feb. 3 on Benedict Avenue near Norwood Avenue in Norwalk.

Valentine, who was charged with DUI and failure to display, had a breath test in which his blood-alcohol content level was .104 percent, the trooper reported. The legal limit for drivers in Ohio is .08 percent. Valentine has no prior DUI convictions.

At 11:17 p.m. Friday, Cody Summerfield, 29, of 1891 Jericho Road, was stopped by Trooper Thomas Halko for a suspected marked lanes violation on U.S. 20 in Townsend Township.

Summerfield, who was charged with DUI and the marked lanes violation, had a BAC that tested at .093 percent, the trooper reported. The suspect has two DUI convictions from 2008 and one in 2005.
