Many people will gather this weekend to watch the Super Bowl. The Norwalk Police Department, as well as the state Highway Patrol would like to remind drivers to stay sober and stay safe while enjoying the game.

Here are some helpful tips to stay safe and keep our roads safe:

When attending a Super Bowl party or watching it at a bar:

n Drink responsibly

n Don't drink and drive

n Don't ride with someone who has been drinking

n Plan ahead for a designated driver and leave your car keys at home

n Call a taxi, friend or relative for a ride

When hosting a Super Bowl party:

n Serve plenty of food and also offer non-alcoholic beverage choices

n Only serve alcohol to guests over the age of 21

n Arrange for designated drivers or taxis for guests

n Don't allow an impaired guest to drive

Call your local law enforcement agency if you see a drunk driver on the road. Always buckle up -- it's still your best defense against other impaired drivers.

The Norwalk police will join numerous police agencies across the state this weekend in an effort to keep our roadways safe. Through Monday, officers will work overtime hours looking for impaired drivers and enforcing traffic laws, including seat belt and speed violations.

These activities are funded through the High Visibility Enforcement Overtime Grant. These funds are passed from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the Office of Criminal Justice Services of the Ohio Department of Public Safety to local agencies in an effort to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities.

Remember: Fans don't let fans drive drunk.
