Benefit for local firefighter tonight in Norwalk

A benefit for Andrew Metz, a Milan Township firefighter, is being held tonight at the Norwalk Eagles Club, 151 Cline St.

The doors, silent auction and cash bar will open at 3 p.m. The spaghetti dinner along with raffles and live auction will begin at 4 and end at 8.

Just three weeks after high school graduation, while in Air Force basic training, Metz was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia. He underwent a bone marrow transplant eight months later. Over the next several years, while taking daily chemotherapy, Metz continued his dreams of serving others. He not only worked full-time, but he also obtained his full-time firefighting certification and joined his father Tyson, serving on the Milan Township Fire Department. Metz has battled many failed chemotherapy treatments and is now going to have a second bone marrow transplant.

If you are interested in donating to Metz’s cause, you can do so by going to Key Bank in Milan and ask for the Andrew Metz Fund. People are interested in assisting with a donation to the benefit, should call Tom Shreve at (419) 577-3385 or Brian Dunegan at (440) 787-4379.

Visit the Milan Township Fire Department on Facebook for further updates.
