A local driver is accused of being intoxicated while driving the wrong way on U.S. 20 in Norwalk Township this week.
Michael E. Roberts, 56, of 85 W. Elm St., was charged with driving under the influence and failure to control in connection with the crash that happened at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday. Sgt. Tony Myers, of the state Highway Patrol, said the driver's breath tested at .166, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08 for drivers of Ohio.
Roberts was going the wrong way -- eastbound in the westbound lane of U.S. 20 -- before the crash, Myers said. The driver went off the end of the road and hit a guardrail. The vehicle continued down an embankment and hit several trees before stopping, Myers said.
There were no injuries.
