The Norwalk post of the state Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that took place at 12:30 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 20 west of Fitchville River Road in Wakeman Township.
Jordan Zartman, 20, of Tiffin, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu west on U.S. 20 when he lost control on the ice-covered roadway and crossed the centerline, colliding head-on with an eastbound 2003 Chrysler Concorde being driven by Richard Yager, 59, of Canfield, troopers said. Both vehicles came to rest in the road.
Zartman was wearing his safety belt and sustained non-incapacitating injuries in the crash. He was transported from the scene to Fisher-Titus Medical Center. His passenger, Breanna Zartman, 24, of Tiffin, who was sitting in the middle of the back seat and not wearing a seat belt, sustained incapacitating injuries. She was transported from the scene to Fisher-Titus.
Yager, who was wearing his seat belt, sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
His vehicle contained three other people, one of whom died as a result of the accident.
Caitlin Yager, 19, of Canfield, was the right rear passenger. She was not wearing her seat belt and received fatal injuries. She was transported to Fisher-Titus.
Matthew Yager, 23, of Canfield, was the left rear passenger. He sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported for Fisher-Titus. It is unknown if he was wearing his seat belt.
Carol Yager, 57, of Canfield, was the front seat passenger. She was wearing her seat belt. She sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported to Cleveland MetroHealth.
Zartman's vehicle was towed from the scene by White’s Towing. Yager's car was towed from the scene by Fitzgerald’s Towing.
Other agencies that assisted troopers at the scene included Ctizens EMS, Wakeman Police and the State Patrol Crash Reconstruction team.
