A Monroeville driver faces two charges after he called the state Highway Patrol about leaving the scene of a crash Saturday.

An Ohio 99, Willard, property owner called the patrol at 10:30 p.m. and reported the driver of a black Chevrolet Suburban hit his mailbox and tried to leave the scene. Troopers responded to the residence and contacted the owner's fiancee.

About 3:40 a.m. Sunday, the driver, Hernesto Dela Cruz, 27, of 22 Surrey Court, Apt. 11A, called the patrol's dispatching center to say he had returned home, according to the Norwalk post.

When troopers interviewed Dela Cruz, they reported his eyes were blood shot and they could smell alcohol on him. When questioned about the last time he had a drink, Dela Cruz said it was about noon Saturday, Trooper Eddie Lopez said in his report.

Dela Cruz, who was charged with failure to control and driving under the influence, was released to a family member.
