The Sandusky post of the state Highway Patrol Post is investigating a two-vehicle, serious injury crash that occurred at 4:23 p.m. Sunday on Lockwood Road, east of Fulton Street, in Ottawa County’s Portage Township.

Marilyn Cuevas, 59, of Port Clinton, was driving a 2005 Silver Ford F-150 west on Lockwood Road when she went into the eastbound lane to pass a Next Bella Vista bicycle being ridden by Joe Rojas, 14, of Port Clinton, troopers said. As the vehicle was passing, Rojas turned in front of it, causing the F-150 to strike the bicycle.

Rojas was ejected, hit the windshield of the truck and landed in the roadway. He sustained serious injuries and was transported by a LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

He was listed in critical condition this morning.

Cuevas and her passenger, Stephen Orshoski, 61, of Port Clinton, both were wearing seat belts and uninjured.

While the crash remains under investigation, troopers said alcohol, drug use and medical conditions have been ruled out as factors.

No citation has been issued at this time, troopers said.
