A Norwalk woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to possessing heroin and has been accepted into a Christian-based substance abuse treatment program.

Carla S. Reed, 29, of 60 N. Prospect St., was convicted of possession of heroin for a March 9 incident. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed one related count of possession of oxycodone.

The Huron County Sheriff's Office found heroin in Reed's purse during a speeding-related traffic stop, Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Richard Woodruff said.

Reed has been accepted into the Teen Challenge program, a year-long substance abuse treatment program for people of all ages. Woodruff said the state has no objection to that being a part of the defendant's community control sanctions.

She will be sentenced Oct. 16 in Huron County Common Pleas Court. Reed has a prior felony conviction and currently is on probation through Norwalk Municipal Court.
