A 20-year-old Orwell woman has been charged with aggravated vehicular assault after she allegedly struck a male with her vehicle Sunday, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department.
Christina Bolas, of 3721 New Hudson Road, was arraigned Monday in Western County Court on the felony charge. Bond was set at $7,500 cash of 10 percent surety. A preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 3 at 2:45 p.m. in Judge David Schroeder’s courtroom.
Deputies were dispatched to Dodgeville Road in Rome Township for report of a person purposely struck by a vehicle on Dodge Road, according to reports. While enroute, dispatch advised them the victim was already being transported to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, according to reports.
Deputies met with the ambulance crew on Dodgeville Road and spoke with the victim. The victim advised Bolas was driving at a high rate of speed while he was hanging onto the wiper blades. He claimed Bolas tried to hit him and he jumped onto the hood of the car. She reportedly drove at a high rate of speed until hitting the brakes causing the victim to fall off the car, according to reports.
A witness at the scene confirmed the story and told deputies he observed the vehicle, with a female driver, driving northbound on Dodge Road. The vehicle reportedly had a broken windshield and was covered in blood, according to reports.
The witness also told deputies he observed the victim on the roadway holding wiper blades. He then called 911 to report the incident, according to reports.
Bolas was later found and arrested. She told deputies the victim was beating her and punched the window out of the car, according to reports.
Bolas was transported to Ashtabula County Jail without incident. The victim was treated at the hospital for a broken hand and later released, according to reports.
