A Mount Vernon man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son last year.
David R. Scott Jr., 39, also pleaded guilty yesterday in Knox County Common Pleas Court to four counts of felony child endangering for “excessive, continual” spanking of other children.
He faces a maximum of 33 years in prison when sentenced on Oct. 11.
Scott originally was charged with murder in the Aug. 12 death of Kendrick Breece, whose mother claimed he was injured by twice falling down the stairs at their home.
The boy died of extensive internal injuries inconsistent with falls, said Prosecutor John Thatcher.
His mother, Tabitha M. Raver, 27, was sentenced to six years in prison earlier this year after pleading guilty to child-endangering charges for failing to protect her four children and allowing Scott to use “excessive corporal punishment.”
The other children were 18 months and ages 6 and 8 at the time they were abused.
