A man and woman were arrested on drug charges Saturday on their way back into the village after an alleged drug buy.

Desiree Collins , 54, and Barry D. Busek, 57, both of 16 E. Main St., Wakeman, were stopped in a vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Ohio 60 by Huron County sheriff’s deputies at 11:55 a.m.

“Detective Eric Bardar opened this investigation a few weeks ago into Desiree Collins and Barry Busek,” Detective Sgt. Josh Querin said Saturday.

“This investigation was in regards to abusing crack cocaine,” he added.

“Today (Saturday), they were stopped on their way back from Lorain County where they allegedly went to purchase crack cocaine,” Querin said.

At the scene of the arrests were Bardar, Querin, Detective Kayla Zander, Deputy John Vogel, along with Sheriff Dane Howard and Special Deputy Dave Battles.

"Desiree Collins, who was driving, was stopped for driving under suspension,” Querin said. “At first, Desiree failed to pull over when lights were activated on marked cruisers.

“She appeared to try and elude authorities,” he added. “She eventually stopped and was found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine.

Querin said Collins and Busek are being held on the charges of possession of crack cocaine and tampering with evidence, as they allegedly attempted to hide the cocaine before they stopped the vehicle.

Collins is also being charged with failure to comply with the orders of a peace officer.

“Desiree admitted to smoking crack cocaine earlier that day,” Querin said. “We believe she was a risk to other motorists on the roadway.”

Querin said both have an extensive criminal history.

Deputies found a suspected crack pipe in the vehicle and suspected crack cocaine on Busek.

“The pipes and suspected cocaine will be sent to the crime lab this week for analysis,” Querin said.

Reports from the case are being forwarded to the Norwalk law director’s office.

“I’d like to compliment Detective Bardar for the work he did on this investigation,” Querin said.
