Pat Saunders dead at 65

A former Democratic party chief, elections board member and political activist in Huron County has died.

Patrick R Saunders, 65, of Norwalk, died Friday, leaving behind his wife, Annie, and three children. An obituary with a list of survivors, service times and other biographical information can be read by clicking HERE.

A retired railroader, Saunders served as chairman for the Huron County Democratic Party from 1994 to 2001. He then organized the Firelands Progressive Coalition, an organization involved with educational funding and healthcare in Ohio. He also was involved in many other organizations.

He served as a member of the Huron County Board of Elections from 1992 until 2004.

In 2001, Saunders earned his bachelor's degree and two years later a master's degree in American cultural studies. He taught American culture studies from 2003 until 2010 at Firelands BGSU in Huron.
