A Mansfield driver was cited after he hit an oncoming truck driver's trailer Thursday morning. The injury accident closed U.S. 224 for a couple hours.

Adam D. Hudson, 25, was charged with going left of center in the connection with the collision with the 2000 International tractor-trailer driven by Vernon C. Bauknecht, 61, of Reedsville, Wisc., according to the state Highway Patrol. The crash happened at 5:48 a.m.

Hudson was westbound on U.S. 224 in a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire when he went left of center on a U.S. 224 curve and hit the left side of the trailer being pulled by Bauknecht, Trooper Matthew Gramlich said in his report.

Bauknecht, who was eastbound, went off the right side and stopped in the Varsity Club parking lot at the Bullhead Road intersection.

Troopers said a small amount of diesel fuel leaked onto the road, which was cleaned up.

Willard Fire & Rescue transported Hudson to Mercy Willard Hospital with minor injuries, Gramlich said. The truck driver wasn't injured.

The Sunfire driven by Hudson sustained disabling damage to the left front and was towed from the scene by Clark Bros. Wilcox towed the truck away with functional damage to the left side of the trailer.

Huron County Sheriff's Deputy Shannon Lyons, the Willard Police Department, North Central EMS and the Ohio Department of Transportation responded to the crash site and assisted state troopers.
