Ohio man sent to prison for child sex crimes

A Middletown man who has been in and out of prison since 1995 was sentenced Wednesday to another eight years behind bars for child sex crimes.

James M. English, 38, formerly of Columbia Avenue, was convicted by a Butler County jury last week of two charges of gross sexual imposition involving girls under the age of 13. The jury was hung on a third count of gross sexual imposition and common pleas Judge Craig Hedric declared a mistrial on the final charge.

Hedric sentenced English to four years for each gross sexual imposition charge to run consecutive. The sentence will also run consecutive to the nine years in prison English received in November after pleading guilty to rape for a crime that occurred in Middletown in September 2011.

Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser said the county will not retry English on the third gross sexual imposition charge.

English was convicted on gross sexual imposition and sexual battery charges for two cases in 1995 and 1996. He was sent to prison for 4½ years. In 2000 he went to prison for three years for gross sex imposition. In 2003 he had an escape charge and was sent back to prison for two years. He had another escape charge in 2006 and received an additional year behind bars. He failed to register his change of address or job status in 2008 and was sentenced to two more years in prison.
