An area man charged with murder in the death of his 48-year-old father has been arrested in Missouri after allegedly fleeing there.
According to authorities, 29-year-old Brandon M. Lawrence is the primary suspect in the death of his father, Michael A. Lawrence, of Shiloh.
The younger Lawrence was charged with murder and motor vehicle theft after being arrested Saturday morning at a Missouri rest stop.
Richland County Sheriff's Capt. Eric Bosko said family members called authorities to Michael Lawrence's Planktown Road home Friday. He was found dead about 9:30 p.m.
Bosko said relatives had not had face to face contact with the elder Lawrence for almost a week.
His son was observed in the middle part of the week driving his father's vehicle, Bosko said.
The state Bureau of Criminal Identification processed the crime scene. The Richland County Division of the U.S. Marshal's Violent Fugitive Task Force was asked to help with apprehension.
Bosko declined to say how authorities determined the suspect was in Missouri.
"I don't want to release the techniques we used," he said.
Missouri authorities arrested him without incident at a rest area in Lawrence County.
Bosko said he plans to send two detectives early this week to Missouri, depending on whether the suspect waives his extradition hearing.
"I would assume he would do it this week," the captain said.
An autopsy was planned for today to determine the cause and manner of death.
