10-year-old girl ejected from vehicle in crash

A 4-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl were flown to a Toledo hospital following a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Halfway Road between Norwalk and Monroeville on Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred at 2:25 p.m. and involved a Chevrolet Impala and Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The driver of the Impala, Harry Shaw, 70, of Norwalk, was northbound on Halfway Road and failed to yield at the U.S. 20 intersection, resulting in a collision with the Trailblazer, said troopers with the Norwalk post of the state Highway Patrol.
The Trailblazer then was forced off the north side of the roadway, striking a utility pole on the right side. The vehicle spun around and came to rest facing southbound.
Shaw's vehicle spun around and came to rest in the southbound lane of Halfway Road.
The 4-year-old boy, Tryston Mahan, of Oak Harbor, was sitting in the second right in a booster seat in the Trailblazer. He sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center by LifeFlight.
Sierra Mahan, 10, of Oak Harbor, was sitting in the second middle. She was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, troopers said. She sustained serious injuries and was flown from the scene to St. Vincent.
Gage Mahan, 12, of Oak Harbor, was sitting in the second left and was not injured.
Robert Mahan, 39, who was driving the Trailblazer, was wearing his seat belt and was not injured in the crash.
Also in the vehicle was Misty Olar, 37, of Mansfield, who was sitting in the front seat and sustained minor injuries.
Shaw was wearing his seat belt and not injured in the crash.
His passenger, Maryanna Shaw, 76, of Norwalk, sustained minor injuries and was transported from the scene by North Central EMS to Fisher-Titus Medical Center. She was wearing her safety belt.
Alcohol and drugs are not considered a factor in the crash.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Huron County Sheriff's Office, Norwalk Fire Department, Huron River Joint Fire District, North Central EMS, LifeFlight, Dendinger's Towing and Norb's Towing.
The crash still is under investigation, and no citations have been issued yet.
