A burglary suspect, whom police caught in his underwear, has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge in Huron County Common Pleas Court.
Pedro D. Contreras, 19, of 31A Bouscay Ave., is charged with attempted burglary, a fifth-degree felony which is punishable by six to 12 months behind bars. His trial is set for Feb. 14.
Norwalk police responded to a 9-1-1 call about a burglary in progress at a South Old State apartment at 11:16 p.m. Oct. 11. Officers, after a search of the area, reportedly found Contreras intoxicated in an apartment in the same complex where police suspected he'd been staying.
"When officers responded, the suspect had left the scene, running from the apartment," Sgt. Jim Montana said soon afterward. "He was in his underwear when we found him. The clothes he put back on were the same clothes that were identified by the witnesses and victims."
Contreras is out of jail on 10 percent of a $5,000 bond. He is prohibited from being on the 76-year-old victim's property.
