A Willard man accused of a sex crime is prohibited from having any contact with any non-relatives under the age of 18 while he is out on bond.

Jose R. Ramirez, 19, of 27 N. Main St., is out of jail on a $10,000 bond. His Huron County Common Pleas Court trial is scheduled for Jan. 15.

On July 7, a 14-year-old girl's parents reported she wasn't where she was supposed to be, but "was with someone else," Willard Police Chief Holden has said. The chief, citing an officer's report, also said the suspected sexual activity appeared to be consensual.

Ramirez is charged with one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. If convicted, he faces six to 18 months behind bars and a maximum fine of $5,000. A conviction also would require the court to classify Ramirez as a Tier II sex offender, meaning he would have to register his address for 15 years.

The defendant was arrested without incident during the investigation of a Willard traffic stop when Ramirez arrived to pick up his friend. The friend, whose name wasn't provided by police, was charged with driving with a suspended license.
