Bowling Green State University Firelands College Adjunct Assistant Professor Larry L. Nelson will be featured in "War of 1812 in the Old Northwest," a documentary film produced by The University of Toledo's PBS affiliate, WGTE TV.

The program will air at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Nelson worked for nearly 25 years as the site-director of Fort Meigs State Memorial (a restored War of 1812 fortification and museum) in Perrysburg before his retirement from the Ohio Historical Society in 2004.

Nelson is an authority in Ohio's frontier history. He has authored five books and numerous articles dealing with Ohio in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He has also appeared in other PBS and History Channel presentations, including the Emmy nominated 2003 History Channel production "First Invasion: 1812."

Nelson received a bachelor's of science degree in education and a master's degree in history from The Ohio State University and his doctorate degree in American history from Bowling Green State University.

In addition to his duties at BGSU Firelands, he is editor of Northwest Ohio History, a regional, refereed journal published by the Maumee Valley Historical Society and edited out of BGSU's history department.
