A 41-year-old Conneaut man who allegedly tossed a brick through a window, striking his girlfriend in the face, will have a preliminary hearing on three felony charges Monday morning in Conneaut Municipal Court.
Ora Burdette, 41, 959 Broad St., has been charged with domestic violence, felonious assault and aggravated burglary, according to a court spokeswoman. Bond set on cases totals $250,000, she said.
The incident began around 10 p.m. Wednesday, when police were called to a Broad Street residence in regards to an unwanted person. Upon arrival, police heard a man, later identified as Burdette, yelling. The man then tossed a brick through the rear window of a vehicle.
Police ordered the man to the ground and he was handcuffed without incident.
Officers then noticed a woman standing behind a door where broken glass was evident. The woman was hysterical and bleeding heavily from a laceration on the bridge of her nose, police said. Cowering behind the woman were two small children, who were crying and extremely frightened, officers said.
An ambulance was dispatched to the scene, officers said.
The woman told police Burdette had been her live-in boyfriend until Wednesday, when she ended the relationship. Burdette returned to the house, apparently intoxicated, and somehow entered the premises, officers said. A loud argument began, and the woman was eventually able to convince Burdette to go outside. She then called 911, police said.
Upon learning of the 911 call, Burdette "went into a tirade" and began using bricks to break windows in a vehicle, officers said. He then tossed a brick at a side door where the woman was standing. The brick shattered door glass and then struck the woman in the face, she told police.
Emergency medical personnel took the woman to UH Conneaut Medical Center for evaluation, officers said.
