Despite what some might believe, the Milan Melon Festival will be in operation this year, just as it has the past 52 years, festival chairwoman Tammy Vitaz said Thursday.
The festival is set for Labor Day Weekend.
Vitaz said she has yet to sign a contract with the village for police coverage due to concerns about the festival paying for overtime coverage. However, Sgt. Bob Meister of the Milan Police Department said he is confident the department and committee members will reach an agreement.
"It's being ironed out," he said. "I think (the issue) was a little more blown up than it needed to be."
