Airport's request for $360,000 in federal grants now in hands of commissioners

The ball is back in the Huron County commissioners' court.

On Tuesday, the Huron County Airport Authority officially requested the commissioners sign a federal grant application so the airport can apply for up to $360,000 in federal funds.

This time, the airport isn't even asking the commissioners for matching funds. With $7,500 of its own airport funds and $11,500 raised in donations by the Friends of the Huron County Airport, the airport can put up $19,000 in matching funds.

So what the airport really needs is for the commissioners to sign the application.

Dennis Sokol, airport board president, said if the commissioners don't sign and the Aug. 1 grant application deadline is missed, a portion of the funds will go to Brown County.
