A familiar face, not only to the school community but the treasurer's office, will become the new school district treasurer effective Aug. 22.
The Monroeville Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Mike Wade, who has been the district's director of transportation for six years. He served in that position at Monroeville from January 1992 through October 1995. Then, he assumed that position at Shelby City Schools until 2004. Following his stint at Shelby, Wade returned to Monroeville and served as transportation director until the present.
The treasurer pays the bills, approves all purchases, sets the budget and serves as the school board's secretary. Wade, whose salary will be $60,000, was one of five applicants vying to succeed Elise Gray, who is returning to school and served as Monroeville's treasurer for almost three years.
