Sheriff to buy 3 new Dodge Charger cruisers

Cary Ashby • May 18, 2011 at 3:00 PM

The Huron County Sheriff's Office will have three new rides sometime this year.

But don't expect the usual Ford Crown Victorias. Deputies will be cruising in 2012 Dodge Chargers.

Sheriff Dane Howard told Huron County Commissioners Gary Bauer and Joe Hintz that he's put in a state bid for three Chargers at a cost of nearly $25,000 each. Commissioner Larry Silcox, the board president, was out of town for Tuesday's meeting to be with his son for a medical issue.

"It's a bare bones package. ... I got V6 for fuel savings," Howard said.

While the new cruisers will be ordered in black, the price tag doesn't include the cost of new cages, lights, decals and rifle racks for each car.
