Twenty two individuals have lost a total of 222 pound and raised $250 for Relay for Life.

Since the beginning of the year, the people have been meeting once a week in Willard.

Additionally, organizers Fitness Trainer Janet Cok and Wellness Coach Anne Nossaman started a challenge at Sheri's Coffee House in Norwalk to promote healthy lifestyle changes and raise funds for American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. This group of 11 lost 90 pounds in eight weeks and raised $127 for Relay for Life. The program was inspired by the "Biggest Loser" Television Show and results were based on total percentage of body weight loss which levels the playing field for different body types and sizes.

The two groups met separately and had their own prize pots into which each participant initially placed $30 so larger the group the larger the payouts. On a rare occasion if someone missed a weekly weigh-in or gained a pound during the week they contributed another dollar bill to the prize pot. The Norwalk and Willard groups were not competing against each other but comparing the weekly results was rather fun and motivational for both groups. This was Willard's second challenge and their group was twice as size which definitely contributed to their impressive results.

Norwalk's top winners included Holly Hoffman, who lost 8.51 percent of her total body weight and earned $127. She plans to use this money to buy new clothes as she dropped three sizes. Additionally, Melissa Edwards came in second place, losing 7.45 percent and earned $85, while Jacquie Hale earned $43 for losing 6.04 percent.

Willard's Biggest "Loser" was Lisa Deel, who lost 32 pounds, or 18.08 percent of her total body weight. She earned $250 through the challenge. Deel plans to spend her winnings first on her three young children at Chuck E. Cheese and then on herself buying new clothes, as she has dropped 4 sizes. Rob Cavello, who came in second, dropped more than 37 pounds or 16.67 percent of his total body weight. He turned all of his $165 winnings over to Relay for Life.

The third place finisher was Vicki Crokie, who lost 26 pounds or 12.35 percent of her total body weight

All participants met weekly to receive encouragement and motivation.

Knowing Swimsuit Season is just around the corner, plans have been made for Spring Challenges. Starting April 2nd, the Norwalk group will have the option to meet at Sheri's Coffee House at noon on Mondays or 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
