n Could not find the source of a lighter fluid-related odor during an investigation at 3:08 p.m. Wednesday at 102 Newton St. Firefighters suggested the owners go through some boxes in the basement, where the odor was the strongest. Returned to station at 3:30.

n Extinguished a chimney/wood burner fire at 8:36 p.m. Wednesday at 2407 U.S. 250 that started in the southwest corner of the home around a pipe in the living area. Firefighters had to open extensive areas of the wall and ceiling to insure the fire didn’t spread. The blaze was contained to a fairly small area near the wood burner. There was moderate smoke damage to the home. The fire caused about $25,000 worth of damage. Returned to station at 10:19.


n Determined someone flattened a Concord Court resident’s two tires by cutting or slashing the valve stems Wednesday. There also were several scratches on the side of the vehicle above the left rear tire.

n An area motorist brought a security club to the station Wednesday for an officer to install on his impounded vehicle. A court order says the truck must be immobilized for 90 days starting this past Friday.

n Christopher S. McDaniel, 32, of 520 E. Walton St., Lot 36, Willard, was arrested on a failure to appear  warrant Wednesday when he came to Norwalk Municipal Court. He didn’t come to a trial Tuesday on a persistent disorderly conduct charge. McDaniel currently is in custody at the Huron County Jail.

n June L. Wolverine, 28, and Bonnie R. Napier, 20, whose addresses were unavailable, were charged with possession of marijuana Wednesday after an officer smelled burnt marijuana coming from a North West Street apartment while investigating a loud music complaint.

n A female motorist who backed into another vehicle in a Benedict Avenue business parking lot exchanged contact information with the other driver Wednesday.

n Bryan T. Laney, 22, of 80 N. Foster St., was charged with a probation violation in connection having a blood alcohol content level of .093 during a home visit Wednesday. He currently is in custody at the Huron County Jail.


n Megan M. Day, 21, of 538 1/2 S. Myrtle Ave., Willard, was charged with failure to control Monday after she went off the right side of Klein Road, hit a rock and stopped in a creek. Willard firefighters transported Day to Mercy Hospital of Willard with possible injuries.

n Scott A. Johnson, 32, of Manchester, Mich., was charged with failure to control Monday after he went off the right side of Ohio 4 with the right rear trailer. He then went off the left side, hit a ditch, went through a field and into the front yard of a property where he hit seven trees. Johnson, who wasn’t injured, re-entered Ohio 4 and stopped in the southbound shoulder.

n Dorothy M. Snipes, 71, of 921 Myrtle Ave., Willard, hit and killed duck that flew in front of her car on Plymouth East Road.

n Kurt L. Kamann, 17, of 3000 Baseline Road, Plymouth, was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance after he hit the rear of the vehicle driven by Maxine D. Nichols, 64, of 4079 Ohio 61, New Haven, on Ohio 61. Nichols was slowing down to turn into her private driveway.
