Wakeman Congregational breaks ground for pavilion

WAKEMAN Members and friends of the Wakeman Congregational Church will celebrate Sunday's worship service at 10:30 a.m. at historic Lyme Village at 5001 Ohio 4 near Bellevue.

Carpooling is encouraged and rides will be available to all who do not have transportation by calling Bernie Wolfe at (440) 839-2157.

Following the service, lunch will be served, and anyone wishing to may bring a covered dish. Tours of Lyme Village will follow, along with old-fashioned games for adults and children.

For more information, contact the church office weekday mornings at (440) 839-2316. Adult Sunday school, which usually meets at 8:30 a.m., will be in recess until Aug. 6.

The church broke ground July 1 for a pavilion which will seat 120, include a kitchen and restrooms, and be available for use by the community.

Plans are to have the building completed by Sept. 22, in time for the church's annual time and service auction. In the meantime, however, it may be used for the church's chicken barbecue from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 4. The cost will be $8 for adults and $4 for children.

Steuben UCC

STEUBEN The Rev. Patricia E. Welch, pastor and teacher, will lead worship during the 11 a.m. service. Large print bulletins will be available.

The congregation is again gathering school supplies. These will be distributed not only locally, but also internationally.


NEW LONDON The United Methodist Church at 58 E. Main St. is offering free suppers from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

St. John UCC

MILAN This church, located at the corner of Mason and Thomas roads, will have a chicken barbecue and bake sale from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5. A half-chicken portion meal will be $7.50, while the quarter-chicken meal will be $5.50 and the half-chicken only $4. Carryouts will be available. The bake sale is sponsored by the senior high youth group.

First Presbyterian, Norwalk

Immediately following the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service, Marc Smith will share highlights from his recent mission trip to Papua, New Guinea with Wycliffe Bible Translators.

The missions committee is celebrating Christmas in July. Bring donations of school supplies and back-packs to help local school children. Supplies donated will be distributed through the Community Action Center.

This Sunday is Food Bank Sunday. Support the local food bank by bringing donations of shampoo and bar soap.

St. Paul Catholic, Norwalk

Children's liturgy of the word will be celebrated at the 9 a.m. Sunday Mass.

First United Methodist, Norwalk

Don't forget the Akron Aeros game July 28.

Norwalk First will have a booth called "Faith Finders" at the Huron County Fair Aug. 13 to 17.

The sermon series topics this month are "The Encouraging Word." Bible study in August is titled "Unwrapping the Gifts." The study will focus on spiritual gifts and meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with the exception of Aug. 15.

Norwalk Church of Christ

The 10:30 a.m. Sunday service will feature a lesson called, "The Curses of God." The 6 p.m. Sunday service will feature a song service. The church also has Bible studies for all ages at 9:30 a.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The church will also have a booth at the Huron County Fair. MILAN The church will honor the Rev. Carl Woodyard Sunday for 24 years of service. The church is located at 150 Ohio 113, Milan.
