A Plymouth man confessed Monday to burglarizing a relative's New Haven home while the victim was out of state for several days at another relative's funeral.
Roger "Coty" C. James, 18, of 26 Birchfield Drive, is accused of forcibly entering the woman's Silliman Road home and stealing about $5,000 worth of "personal effects and property," Huron County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Dane Howard said. James currently is in custody at the Huron County Jail awaiting a bond hearing on a burglary charge.
"He confessed to the burglary," Howard said, after he and another detective interviewed James. "He took the opportunity to break in and steal her two little boys' effects."
The New Haven woman reported the incident June 28.
There is another "person of interest" wanted by authorities, Howard said. He is unsure of that suspect's involvement and declined to say how the man knows James.
"There is more investigation needed to confirm the statements made by Mr. James," he added.
The next part of the probe involves recovering the stolen property.
"It may be scattered in different counties," Howard said.
