Two accounting scholarships offered for the 2007-2008 year have been awarded. These scholarships are from a fund established by Payne, Nickles & Company within The Fund for Huron County, and are available to any fourth- or fifth-year accounting major in Erie, Huron or contiguous counties.
Molly Krikke, a student at Calvin College, received one of the $1,500 awards. She plans to continue working toward her accounting degree and expects to graduate in May 2008. Krikke is the daughter of Howard and Jane Krikke.
The second scholarship of $1,500 has been awarded to Jennifer Wood of Sandusky. Wood attends Tiffin University and expects to graduate in May 2008. She is the daughter of Kevin and Sue Wood.
Nathan Lambes was granted a bachelor's degree in English-writing May 12 at the Spring Arbor University commencement exercises.
Nathan is son of Larry and Robin Lambes of Norwalk.
Juliann Nicole Pietch of Norwalk, Bryan Dean Bauer of Berlin Heights, Bradley Allen Polachek of Willard and Ryan Patrick Bores of Monroeville all have received the Sandusky Register Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. They will receive $500 toward their tuition for the 2007-2008 academic year.
This scholarship program offers a total of six awards; three to freshmen and three to continuing students. Applicants must reside in Erie or Huron counties, the city of Port Clinton or Danbury Township of Ottawa County.
Pietch received her GED in 2003. She is a sophomore majoring in social work at BGSU Firelands where she was on the dean's list. She is the daughter of Larry and Judy Pietch of Norwalk.
Bauer is a 2006 graduate of Edison High School where he was inducted into the National Honor Society. He was involved with baseball, basketball and math club. He is a sophomore majoring in radiologic technology at BGSU Firelands where he was on the dean's list. He is the son of Chris and Phyllis Bauer of Berlin Heights.
Polachek is a 2007 graduate of Willard High School where he was inducted into the National Honor Society, was an honors graduate, was named academic all-Ohio for golf and won the American Legion Award, the Directors Award for Symphonic Choir and the Brett Buurma Memorial Award. While in high school he participated in baseball, football, golf, marching band, concert band, jazz band, show choir, symphonic choir and theater. He is a freshman majoring in criminal justice. He is the son of Gregory and Michelle Polachek of Willard.
Bores is a 2007 graduate of Monroeville High School where he was inducted into National Honor Society, earned a four-year academic letter, was named academic all-Ohio and was tirst team all-academic Firelands Conference for football, basketball and track. While in high school he participated in Key Club, Renaissance Club, football, basketball and track. He has coached youth flag football and youth basketball. He is a freshman at BGSU Firelands. He is the son of Mark and Patricia Bores of Monroeville.
Sadie Ann Deckard of Wakeman has received the Leon and Susan Cross Book Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $250 toward her textbooks for the 2007-2008 academic year.
This award is available to students who reside in Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties, and are majoring in biological or physical science. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible to receive this book scholarship.
Deckard is a 2006 graduate of St. Paul High School.
She is a sophomore majoring in nutrition science and pre-med at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the dean's list and involved with the BGSU Science Club.
She is the daughter of Gary Deckard and Deborah Hashier.
Erica Joan Bryant of Norwalk has received the James E. Cole Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $2,096 toward her tuition for the 2007-2008 academic year.
High school achievement plus potential for scholarly success in college are primary considerations for this scholarship. Open to Norwalk and St. Paul High Schools seniors, applicants are screened by the principals of the schools who recommend three finalists to be considered by the Firelands Scholarship Committee in making the award.
Bryant is a 2007 graduate of Norwalk High School where she was on the honor roll and principal's list and received a Governor's Show Art Award, four regional art awards and a National Honor Society Hall of Excellence Award. She was involved with National Honor Society, National Honor Society Art Club, tennis and Foreign Language Club.
She is a freshman majoring in early childhood education.
She is the daughter of Stephen Bryant and Cynthia McLeod of Norwalk.
Jamisyn R. Hipp, of Norwalk, has been named to the annual dean's list at Otterbein College for the 2006-2007 academic year.
A student must carry at least 45 quarter hours during the academic year with a grade point average of at least 3.60 to qualify for the annual dean's list.
Jamisyn is the daughter of Jeffrey and Mary Ann Hipp of Norwalk.
University of Akron has announced the names of students on the dean's list for the 2007 spring semester.
Students on the dean's list maintained a 3.25 or better grade-point average for the semester.
