Time to go to work: Tool to play July 1 at DTE Energy Music Theatre

The good news just keeps pouring in for this summer concert season.

Just announced are two more winners.

First, Tool has scheduled a July 1 concert at the DTE Energy Music Theatre, located about an hour north of Detroit in Clarkston, Mich. Tool continues to tour in support of its May 2006 release, "10,000 Days."

I'm going to be spending a lot of time at the DTE this summer as Rush, Stevie Nicks/Chris Isaak, Bryan Adams/George Thorogood and now Tool have shows slated there.

I like the DTE, though it is a haul going up there. It's about 160 miles one-way from Norwalk. It's easy though, as it's just two roads the Ohio Turnpike and I. 75. Get off at the Sashabaw Road exit which is Exit 89.

I believe the DTE has been the best-attended concert venue in the U.S. for 15 or 16 straight years. The DTE holds a bit more than 15,000 people, counting pavilion and lawn. I like going there because the shows are packed and the crowds are fired up.

Hopefully, Nine Inch Nails adds a DTE date this summer as well.

Speaking of Nine Inch Nails, they officially released "Year Zero" Tuesday and my first impression is it's definitely a different style than 2005's "With Teeth."

"Year Zero" incorporates more electronic sounds as was the tradition in the early NIN days. "Year Zero" is a concept album set about 15 years in the future. Honestly, I hope things are better 15 years from now than NIN front man Trent Reznor has made them out to be. Either way, it's a good record.

Don't forget the new Porcupine Tree and Marillion CDs hit the stores Tuesday. Marillion, which has been around for more than 20 years, will release "Somewhere Else" while Porcupine Tree will unleash "Fear of a Blank Planet." Also, PT will play the House of Blues in Cleveland May 18.

Both the Heaven & Hell and Mastodon concerts continue to creep up. Heaven & Hell plays the Time Warner Cable Amphitheater at Tower City on May 11, while Mastodon will perform at the House of Blues May 14.

I've had several people comment to me about my less-than-enthusiastic response to the announced Dave Matthews Band show at Blossom Music Center Aug. 20. I'm just not a huge DMB fan. I do have a live CD from DMB from Central Park in New York City. Maybe I'll give it another spin.
