Three board-certified cardiologists are joining the medical staff at Fisher-Titus Medical Center as part of FTMC’s efforts to expand heart and vascular services to area residents.

Drs. Christopher J. Cooper, Raj Karnik and Daniel J. Kosinski will have offices located inside Fisher-Titus Medical Center while FTMC’s new Heart and Vascular Center is being built, according to FTMC President Patrick J. Martin. All three physicians are part of the University of Toledo Heart and Vascular Center (UT-CVC).  Cooper is director of the UT-CVC.

“These physicians will be augmenting cardiac services provided by North Ohio Heart Center cardiologists, who have been treating area patients for more than 10 years, and cardiovascular and vascular specialist Dr. Barry J. Zadeh, who joined FTMC and the Bellevue Hospital last fall,” Martin said.

Zadeh is a board certified cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon with advanced training in the latest minimally invasive endovascular procedures. The recruitment of Zadeh represented the first phase of the cardiac services expansion at Fisher-Titus.

“With his vast experience and advanced training in endovascular procedures, Dr. Zadeh brought a new dimension to cardiac care here,” Martin said. “Since he joined FTMC in September 2006, he has done more than 380 procedures in FTMC’s expanded cardiovascular and special procedures lab.”

Cooper and Kosinski, both UT physicians, have been serving Bellevue area patients for the past eight years with offices in the Bellevue Hospital, according to Martin. He added that they will continue to serve those patients through their Bellevue office. Karnik most recently practiced in Defiance.

“We are excited about the expansion of cardiology services here at Fisher-Titus,” Martin said. “And are very pleased to have these outstanding physicians join our team.”

Board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology, Cooper is a nationally regarded academic cardiologist, professor of medicine and director of the University of Toledo-Cardiac and Vascular Center.

Board Certified in internal medicine and clinical cardiac electrophysiology, Kosinski currently serves the Bellevue area as a cardiologist. He also is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Toledo. His special interests are treatment of arrhythmias and cardiac pacing.

Board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases, Karnik most recently served as a cardiologist at Defiance Clinic and chief of staff at Mercy Hospital of Defiance. He also is a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Toledo. His special interests are preventative cardiology and cardiovascular imaging.

The group will begin seeing patients in their Norwalk offices inside Fisher-Titus beginning July 2. They can be reached by calling (800) 321-8383, Ext. 3697. Karnik and Kosinski are moving to the area.

“The FTMC Heart and Vascular Center will be digitally linked to UT-CVC allowing instantaneous transmission of information and images between sites, bringing the most sophisticated medical expertise to and judgment to every patient,” Martin said.

Construction for the new FTMC Heart and Vascular Center will begin in October. Along with physician office space, the $8.4-million, 21,000-square-foot addition will include a new cardiac catherization lab and relocation of the existing vascular lab and support space; and the relocation of the current Cardiac Rehabilitation Department.  The facility is scheduled for completion by summer of 2008.
