Suitcases collected for needy children

This winter, the Huron County human services agency was contacted to see if it would like suitcases to use with children who need to go to foster homes.

Suzie Sidell and Jon Cooper were interested in this project, since they haven't had any to use for about five years.

Therefore, the New London United Methodist Church youth took on this project in cooperation with the New London Salvation Army. The youth collected and cleaned the suitcases under the direction of their leader, George Trask and Laura Landis and The Rev. Kathy Ake.

The youth enjoyed selecting and placing a stuffed animal and/or put new school supplies in each suitcase or bag. Finally, they put a tag on each item as a suggestion as to the appropriate age.

George Trask, youth leader, and Bonnie Scheerer, representative of the Salvation Army, took about 50 suitcases and bags to the human services building and presented them to Sidell and Cooper.

A big box of extra stuffed animals also was taken and presented for the human services department to use in their work with children.
